- Italian air force officer and European Space Agency astronaut, born on 4 May 1959 in Modena
- Graduated from : the Empire Test Pilot School (1988), the University of Houston (Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering - 1994), the University of Torino (Master of Science - 2004) and ESCP-EAP Paris (Master in Business Administration - 2007)
- Director of Operational Development at Alenia Aeronautica from 2007
- 1996 > 2007 : Chief Test Pilot of Alenia Aeronautica working extensively on different development programmes of the Eurofighter Typhoon
- More than 4500 hours of flight experience in over 50 different types of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters
- June 1992 : selected by the European Space Agency and member of the 19th space mission with the Columbia orbiter (22 février > 9 mars 1996 - 377 hours in space)
